PSG &Sons’ Charities

PSG Institute of Management is an Institution under the PSG & Sons’ Charities Trust, one of the oldest charitable organizations in India devoted to empowerment and social change through education. The PSG & Sons’ Charities Trust was created in 1926 with the purpose of augmenting and empowering the youth through education. PROFESSOR G. R. DAMODARAN

Professor GRD set the standard for Management education in southern India. He was actively involved in the design of the curriculum and was in favor of exposing students to the best and latest in terms of management practices. He insisted that students have access to expensive journals and magazines like the Harvard Business Review. His passion for the management sciences saw him sit in several lectures delivered by faculty. He would spend a few hours interacting with students and faculty every day. In 1973, he was nominated as the member of Board of Governors of IIM Bangalore. Interactions with the Professors and Board of Governors at IIM-B gave him a wider perspective of management education.

SHRI G. VARADARAJ

Under Mr. G. Varadaraj’s trusteeship, the management programme at PSG College of Technology rose in prestige and prominence and was amongst the best offered in southern India. He encouraged faculty to experiment with pedagogy and supported students in all their endeavours. His close association with industry helped in developing a better industry-academia connect.

SHRI G. R. KARTHIKEYAN

Mr. G. R. Karthikeyan completed his Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Management and Masters in Management Science from PSG College of Technology. He sought to revamp the management scene by upgrading the Department of Management to a full fledged Institute of Management. An exclusive building was allotted to the Institute and a Director was appointed. Faculty strength was raised and special emphasis was on recruitment of young blood. Unique programmes such as “Yoga” were introduced in the Curriculum. With liberalization in the 1990s, the economy opened up, offering plenty of opportunities. Mr. G.R. Karthikeyan was quick to realize the need for national and international collaborations to provide cutting edge management education and signed MoUs with the IIFT and the University of Toledo for the same. He was instrumental in bringing industry expertise to management education.

SHRI V. RAJAN

It was during Mr. V. Rajan’s trusteeship that infrastructure in Institute of Management got a further boost. A massive yoga hall, a state-of-the-art computer lab and additional classrooms were built. A new block exclusively for housing the Learning Resource Centre was constructed. With the physical infrastructure in place, the book collection was augmented and the Learning Resource Center was ranked among the best of its kind in the city.

MR. G. RANGASWAMY

Mr. G. Rangaswamy was instrumental in signing several MoUs with international universities that opened up unique opportunities for management aspirants. An MoU with San Diego State University’s Center for International Business Education and Research opened the doors for faculty and student exchange programmes. In 2006, an MoU was signed with the College of Business Administration (COBA), University of Toledo for running a general management programme.

SHRI L. GOPALAKRISHNAN

Mr. Gopalakrishnan is an active participant at all IM events. He is very supportive of exposing students and faculty to international cultures and is always encouraging them to participate in exchange programmes. He signed an MoU with the University of Hof, Germany to create an MBA programme that is designed specifically for engineers. He was also instrumental in setting up the Bayind Summer School programme where foreign students would spend three weeks in India getting a flavor of its past and present.

PSG College of Technology

PSG College of Technology, was started during the Trust’s Silver Jubilee year in 1951. Originally affiliated to the Madras University, today it functions as an autonomous college while being affiliated to the Anna University.
