Governance

We are what we are today because of the vision, commitment and generosity shown by our founders and trustees who played a pivotal role in the growth of the institute. It is great honor and pride to pay tribute to these leaders who sown the seeds of excellence, compassion and determination in all of us.

Professor G. R. Damodaran

Professor GRD set the standard for Management education in southern India. He was actively involved in the design of the curriculum and was in favor of exposing students to the best and latest in terms of management practices. He insisted that students have access to expensive journals and magazines like the Harvard Business Review. His passion for the management sciences saw him sit in several lectures delivered by faculty. He would spend a few hours interacting with students and faculty every day. In 1973, he was nominated as the member of Board of Governors of IIM Bangalore. Interactions with the Professors and Board of Governors at IIM-B gave him a wider perspective of management education.

Shri G. Varadaraj

Under Mr. G. Varadaraj’s trusteeship, the management programme at PSG College of Technology rose in prestige and prominence and was amongst the best offered in southern India. He encouraged faculty to experiment with pedagogy and supported students in all their endeavours. His close association with industry helped in developing a better industry-academia connect.

Shri G. R. Karthikeyan

Mr. G. R. Karthikeyan completed his Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Management and Masters in Management Science from PSG College of Technology. He sought to revamp the management scene by upgrading the Department of Management to a full fledged Institute of Management. An exclusive building was allotted to the Institute and a Director was appointed. Faculty strength was raised and special emphasis was on recruitment of young blood. Unique programmes such as “Yoga” were introduced in the Curriculum. With liberalization in the 1990s, the economy opened up, offering plenty of opportunities. Mr. G.R. Karthikeyan was quick to realize the need for national and international collaborations to provide cutting edge management education and signed MoUs with the IIFT and the University of Toledo for the same. He was instrumental in bringing industry expertise to management education.

Shri V. Rajan

It was during Mr. V. Rajan’s trusteeship that infrastructure in Institute of Management got a further boost. A massive yoga hall, a state-of-the-art computer lab and additional classrooms were built. A new block exclusively for housing the Learning Resource Centre was constructed. With the physical infrastructure in place, the book collection was augmented and the Learning Resource Center was ranked among the best of its kind in the city.

Mr. G. Rangaswamy

Mr. G. Rangaswamy was instrumental in signing several MoUs with international universities that opened up unique opportunities for management aspirants. An MoU with San Diego State University’s Center for International Business Education and Research opened the doors for faculty and student exchange programmes. In 2006, an MoU was signed with the College of Business Administration (COBA), University of Toledo for running a general management programme.

Shri L. Gopalakrishnan
